CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Saturday he would protest a lack of transparency in China’s treatment of a detained Australian democracy blogger when meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing during a trade-focused state visit. The detention of Yang Hengjun without conviction for almost five years will be one of the topics raised with Xi when they meet in the Great Hall of the People on Monday.Yang is being held in a Beijing detention center awaiting the verdict of a 2021 closed-door trial on espionage charges. The 58-year-old’s family fears he is dying.“I’ll be saying that Dr. Yang’s case needs to be resolved and I’ll be speaking about his human rights, the nature of the detention and the failure to have transparent processes,” Albanese told reporters in the northern Australian city of Darwin hours before he was to fly to Shanghai. The Chinese Foreign Ministry this week defended Yang’s prosecution, saying his case had been handled in strict accordan...What a comeback! LAFAYETTE — They chanted, “One more week. One more week.” They hoisted their sophomore hero Micah Parker, the running back who scored the touchdown that would decide the game. They broke the hearts of a rival while presumably extending their season into next week’s section playoffs.Friday night, the Campolindo Cougars rallied from two touchdowns behind in the final quarter to stun host Acalanes 25-24, an outcome that left the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division in a three-way tie for the championship between these teams and Las Lomas.Had Acalanes won, the Lafayette school would have captured its first outright league title in 42 years. But it wasn’t to be after Scott Lyon caught a two-point conversion pass from Isaiah Ortiz, which followed Parker’s 23-yard touchdown run with 2:53 left.Campolindo’s Micah Parker (26) avoids a tackle by Acalanes’ Gavin Bender (7) to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter of their game at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 3,...Former San Jose Jr. Sharks coach arrested

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder gave the NBA exactly what it wanted out of the inaugural In-Season Tournament — playoff-caliber intensity early in the season.Stephen Curry scored 30 points, including the winning layup with 0.2 seconds left, to help the Warriors beat the Thunder 141-139 on Friday night.Initially, Curry’s final shot was ruled no good because of offensive goaltending against Draymond Green. The call was overturned, and the Warriors held on. Green said the call was overturned because he touched the rim and not the ball. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault also said that was the explanation he was given.Green said the NBA has created something good.“You just saw two teams competing,” he said. “We talk about this In-Season Tournament, and —- it’s a playoff game. It was a fun game to play and intensity level is there. So job well done to the NBA, having his type of excitement in November.
