NCAA Tournament Predictions: 4. Indiana vs. 13. Kent State Indiana (22-11, 12-8/Big Ten)- Led by big man Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana was the Big Ten preseason favorite. And although the Hoosiers did not capture a Big Ten championship, they appear to be peaking at the right time and will be a dangerous team in the Midwest region.Jackson-Davis has been once again, spectacular (20.8 ppg, 57% FG) and is capable of taking over any game. Meanwhile, Indiana has developed a legit sidekick in 6-foot-6 freshman Jalen Hood-Schifino (13.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.7 apg) who has excellent shot-making abilities and could be a lottery pick if he leaves for the NBA after this season. However, the Hoosiers (77th in defensive rating) have been vulnerable defensively this season at times and have also been victim to a few true clunkers, with a 22-point home loss to Iowa and 19-point road defeat at Penn State the most egregious.Indiana hasn’t been to a Sweet 16 since 2016, a sting on a proud program. Mike Woodson has done well to ge...

Divided jury means no death penalty for NYC bike path killer NEW YORK (AP) — A split among jurors means there will be no death penalty for an Islamic extremist who maniacally raced a truck along a popular New York City bike path, killing eight people and maiming others. The decision means Sayfullo Saipov, 35, an Uzbekistan citizen who lived in New Jersey, gets an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole in the October 2017 attack. Jurors told the judge Monday that they were unable to reach the unanimous verdict required for a death sentence. The sentencing was the culmination of a trial that featured emotional testimony from survivors of the attack and relatives of the five tourists from Argentina, two Americans and a Belgian woman who were killed. The same jury convicted Saipov in January of 28 charges including murder in aid of racketeering and supporting a terrorist organization. It returned last month for a penalty phase to decide whether he should be sentenced to death or spend the rest of his life at a maximum ...

MPs want annual national-security reports, aid for businesses to thwart cyber threats OTTAWA — A committee of MPs is calling on the federal government to issue an overarching annual national-security threat assessment and provide more information on how to prevent cyber attacks, particularly from Russia.“Concern about Russia is heightened because it has shown a willingness to cross internationally recognized red lines,” reads a report from the House of Commons committee on public safety. The report, tabled in Parliament last week, argues that the various agencies and committees handing national security issues operate in silos, and a patchwork of reports come from different sources. The MPs want someone in government to gather those recommendations and create an annual priority list. They say this should start with a review of the various “cyber roles, responsibilities, and structures that exist across the federal government” in order to “maximize coherence, co-ordination, and timely action.”The committee heard about malware and cybe...
