The math is changing in the scramble to avoid relegation from the Premier League. From an unlikely nine-team scrap at the end of March, the field looks to have slimmed to six candidates with a month to go in the season. And one of them already appears doomed.Southampton’s 11-year stay in the top division looks like ending, with the team having plunged to last place and six points adrift of safety after collecting only three points from its last eight games.Meanwhile, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton and Bournemouth — all onto their second managers of the season — have found some form and results at the right time to seemingly pull clear of danger. It leaves five clubs likely battling to avoid the other two relegation spots alongside Southampton, and there are some big names in there.Like Everton, a nine-time English champion which has been in the top division in its various guises since 1954.Like Leicester, which was a league champion — at preseason odds of 5,000-1 — just seven yea...Saia: Q1 Earnings Snapshot

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has a left thigh injury that could make him a doubt for the Copa del Rey final and the club’s Champions League semifinal against Manchester City.Madrid said Friday that the 37-year-old Modric “had an injury to the back of his left thigh” without giving an estimate for how long he will need to recover. Coach Carlo Ancelotti said he doubts his key playmaker will be able to play the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna in Seville on May 6. The first leg of the Champions League semifinal against City is three days later. Ancelotti said Modric picked up the “small injury” during Tuesday’s 4-2 loss at Girona in the Spanish league that left it 11 points behind leader Barcelona.“This is soccer and these things happen,” Ancelotti said. “We hope to have him back for the games left, which are important.”Modric, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, has helped Madrid win five Champions League titles, including the club’s record-extending 14th European...Exxon ups production to counter falling prices in record Q1

(CNN) — “Peter Pan & Wendy” wants to conjure magic but turns out to be low on fairy dust, yielding a dreary live-action adaptation of the 1953 movie that transforms Neverland into what vaguely feels like a discount version of Pandora. Modest narrative upgrades help lift the Disney+ film above the service’s recent “Pinocchio,” but clearing that very low bar amounts to damnation with faint praise. There have been numerous live-action renderings of J.M. Barrie’s classic, from “Hook” to “Peter Pan” to simply “Pan” — plus “Finding Neverland,” which cast Johnny Depp as Barrie in a touching look at the play’s origins.Other than a few welcome and necessary changes to rid the Disney animated film of more problematic elements, and a bit more backstory explaining this Captain Hook (Jude Law) and his semi-depressed demeanor, this version pretty closely adheres to the basic blueprint, ponderi...James Corden bids an emotional farewell to ‘The Late Late Show’
